Overview

RNU6-960P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 960, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene derived from the highly conserved U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene[2][5]. U6 snRNA is a crucial non-coding RNA component of the spliceosome, essential for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3]. However, pseudogenes like RNU6-960P are generally regarded as non-functional variants that lack the capacity to encode functional RNA or protein, typically due to sequence mutations or truncations. Pseudogenes may be transcribed and can influence expression of other genes through regulatory mechanisms such as acting as microRNA (miRNA) decoys or competing for RNA-binding proteins, but most U6 snRNA pseudogenes, including RNU6-960P, have not been demonstrated to perform such functions[4]. There is no evidence to date that RNU6-960P is a viable therapeutic target, nor is it directly implicated in disease. It is mainly of genomic and evolutionary interest, sharing partial sequence homology with the functional U6 snRNA, but does not form part of the active spliceosome machinery[3][5].

Biological functions

Acts as a non-functional RNApotential regulatory element by analogy to other pseudogenes (possible ceRNA functions, miRNA decoy, etc., but not specifically described for this locus)
03

Disease associations

Pseudogenes have been implicated in various diseases (cancer, etc.) mainly through gene regulation, but there are no disease associations or functional data specific for RNU6-960PMost U6 snRNA pseudogenes are not assigned clear pathological roles.
