Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 97, pseudogene (RNU6-97P) is a human pseudogene corresponding to a nonfunctional copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene[8][6][7]. U6 small nuclear RNA is a component of the spliceosome complex required for the splicing of pre-messenger RNA in eukaryotic cells[3]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-97P does not produce a functional product and is not considered a therapeutic target or a protein-coding gene. Like other pseudogenes, RNU6-97P may be transcribed, but it is generally believed to lack significant biological function; still, some pseudogenes elsewhere in the genome have shown potential regulatory roles, including involvement in gene expression modulation and interactions with microRNAs or as sources of regulatory RNAs[4]. At present, there is no evidence that RNU6-97P itself has a direct regulatory or disease-related function.
