Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 973, pseudogene (RNU6-973P) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 7 (7q), annotated under Gene ID: 106479996[1][3][5]. It represents a nonfunctional copy of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, and unlike its functional parental gene, it is not known to be transcribed into a mature RNA capable of participating in pre-mRNA splicing. There is currently no evidence supporting a direct role of RNU6-973P in disease or as a therapeutic target, and its biological activity and clinical importance remain uncharacterized[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes broadly may have regulatory roles through noncoding RNA mechanisms, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or miRNA decoys, but this has not been established for RNU6-973P specifically[2]. Functional U6 small nuclear RNA is a core component of the spliceosome, essential for mRNA processing[4], but RNU6-973P lacks such function as a pseudogene. There are no known drugs or interventions interacting with this pseudogene, and it is not used as a biomarker or recognized in clinical safety contexts[1][3][5].
