RNU6-974P is a transcribed pseudogene that resembles the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene but is not known to produce a functional RNA product. The parental U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, participating directly in pre-mRNA splicing and catalyzing intron removal. U6 snRNA pseudogenes, including RNU6-974P, are common in the human genome and typically lack biological activity. While some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects in select contexts, there is no evidence supporting a role for RNU6-974P itself in cellular function or disease.
