RNA, U6 small nuclear 987, pseudogene (RNU6-987P) is a processed pseudogene related to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene, which has essential roles in splicing as part of the spliceosome complex in eukaryotes[3]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-987P does not produce a functional RNA and lacks known biological roles, enzymatic activity, or involvement in canonical RNA splicing. Pseudogenes are abundant in the human genome and may have minor regulatory functions in special circumstances, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or producing non-processing transcripts, but there is currently no evidence for RNU6-987P being involved in disease, drug response, or molecular targeting[4][5]. Its genomic annotation exists primarily as a record of its sequence similarity to functional U6 snRNA genes.
