RNA, U6 small nuclear 996, pseudogene (RNU6-996P) is a pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. The functional U6 snRNA is an essential non-coding RNA that participates in the splicing of pre-messenger RNA within the spliceosome, a complex that performs the removal of introns in eukaryotic cells[1][3][5]. However, a pseudogene such as RNU6-996P is typically a non-functional genomic sequence, lacking the ability to produce an active RNA product. Vertebrate genomes commonly contain numerous U6-derived pseudogenes, which are non-coding and are not understood to have a direct biological role or involvement in disease[2][3]. There is no evidence for RNU6-996P serving as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction site, nor is it known to be implicated in human diseases or cellular functions.
