Unlike canonical U6 snRNA, which is a highly conserved and essential component of the spliceosome responsible for catalytic activity in pre-mRNA splicing[1][3][5], RNU6-998P does not code for a functional RNA or protein. Pseudogenes like RNU6-998P often arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition but have lost their capacity for producing functional products, frequently due to mutations or regulatory sequence loss[2][6][7]. Multiple U6-derived pseudogenes exist throughout the genome[3][7]. No known biological function, disease association, or therapeutic relevance has been reported for RNU6-998P[2][6][7].
