RNA, U6atac small nuclear 16, pseudogene (RNU6ATAC16P) is classified as a pseudogene of the U6atac small nuclear RNA family[1][9]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6ATAC16P are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but have lost their capacity to encode functional products, typically due to mutations or truncations[10]. The parent gene, U6atac, encodes the U6atac snRNA, which is an essential RNA component of the minor spliceosome involved in the splicing of a rare class of introns (U12-type, or AT-AC introns) in eukaryotic pre-mRNAs[4][7]; however, the pseudogene RNU6ATAC16P does not produce functional RNA and is not known to participate in any splicing process or cellular pathway[1][9][10]. There is no evidence suggesting that RNU6ATAC16P serves as a therapeutic target, has a role in disease, interacts with drugs, or functions as a biomarker. Its presence is mainly as a remnant of genomic evolution and retrotransposition events[10].
