Overview

RNA, U6atac small nuclear 19, pseudogene (RNU6ATAC19P) is classified as a pseudogene—a DNA sequence resembling a gene but typically nonfunctional due to mutations, deletions, or insertions[1][4][6]. It shares sequence similarity with functional U6atac small nuclear RNA genes, which are paralogs of U6 snRNA and participate in the catalytic core of the minor (U12-dependent) spliceosome involved in pre-mRNA splicing[5]. However, this particular locus (the RNU6ATAC19P pseudogene) is not thought to produce a functional RNA product or protein and is not considered a therapeutic target in drug development or disease[1]. Pseudogenes can occasionally have regulatory roles—such as involvement in RNA interference pathways or acting as miRNA decoys in other cases, but there is no specific evidence that RNU6ATAC19P has such functions[4][6]. The entry is also technically “incorrect” as a target because it is a pseudogene and not an active, functional molecule; therefore, it should not be used as a drug or research “target”[1].
