RNU6ATAC25P (RNA, U6atac small nuclear 25, pseudogene) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, meaning it is a DNA sequence resembling the active U6atac snRNA gene but lacks the ability to encode a functional RNA molecule due to evolutionary mutations. U6atac snRNA itself is a paralog of U6 snRNA and has catalytic roles in the minor spliceosome, required for splicing a specific subset of eukaryotic introns. However, RNU6ATAC25P, as a pseudogene, cannot participate in these cellular functions. Pseudogenes like RNU6ATAC25P typically arise via retrotransposition, often through the activity of the L1 retrotransposon machinery, leading to genomic copies that lack biological activity. While some pseudogenes can act as competitive RNA molecules or miRNA sponges affecting disease, there is no current evidence for RNU6ATAC25P having such roles. Consequently, RNU6ATAC25P is not a target for drugs, not implicated in disease, nor considered for biomarker or therapeutic applications.
