RNA, U7 small nuclear 116 pseudogene (RNU7-116P) is a pseudogene corresponding to the U7 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. The canonical U7 snRNA is an essential, small non-coding RNA component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (U7 snRNP), which is crucial for the 3' end processing of replication-dependent histone pre-mRNAs in metazoan animals[1][3][5]. Unlike the functional U7 snRNA, pseudogenes such as RNU7-116P lack the capacity to encode functional RNA due to accumulated sequence variations, truncations, or defects[7][9]. While some pseudogenes in other contexts may have regulatory or decoy functions, there is no current evidence suggesting that RNU7-116P is functionally active, implicated in disease, or acts as a therapeutic target[7][9].
