Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, U7 small nuclear 12 pseudogene (RNU7-12P) is one of many pseudogenes found in the human genome, annotated as a non-coding RNA gene related by sequence to U7 small nuclear RNA (U7 snRNA)[1]. While the functional U7 snRNA is a component of the U7 snRNP complex and is essential for histone pre-mRNA 3′ end processing[3][5], pseudogenes such as RNU7-12P are typically not expressed or functional. Most snRNA pseudogenes are thought to be evolutionary remnants resulting from gene duplication and mutation, and their disrupted or absent transcription means they do not participate in known cellular processes[4][8]. RNU7-12P has no reported protein product, established biological functions, or known regulatory effects, and is not considered a therapeutic target or disease gene[1][4][5]. Some pseudogenes have regulatory roles in rare cases[6][8], but there is no literature or database support for such a role for RNU7-12P. Key insights: - RNU7-12P is best classified as a pseudogene, not as a functional or pharmaceutically relevant target[1][5]. - Most snRNA pseudogenes are not expressed, and there is no evidence that RNU7-12P has regulatory or protein-coding capacity[4][5]. - The gene does not participate in biological pathways, disease processes, or drug interactions[1][5].
