Overview

RNU7-160P (RNA, U7 small nuclear 160 pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA gene classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are generally considered non-functional due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements[2]. RNU7-160P specifically shares homology with the U7 small nuclear RNA (U7 snRNA), which is an essential component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex responsible for 3' end processing of histone pre-mRNAs[3][5][1]. However, as a "pseudogene," RNU7-160P does not encode a functional RNA product and is not known to participate directly in any cellular processes or serve as a therapeutic target. Some pseudogenes have been shown in general to participate in gene regulation by giving rise to regulatory RNAs or by acting as RNA decoys, but there is no specific evidence linking RNU7-160P to such functions[4][6]. No drug interactions, biomarker utility, or disease connections are currently attributed to RNU7-160P.
