Overview

**RNA, U7 small nuclear 26 pseudogene (RNU7-26P)** is a pseudogene corresponding to the U7 small nuclear RNA gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional due to mutations that prevent expression or the formation of a functional product. U7 small nuclear RNA is an essential component of the U7 snRNP complex, which is required for the 3' end processing of replication-dependent histone pre-mRNAs, but RNU7-26P itself is a non-functional, processed pseudogene with no known biological activity or role in disease[1][6]. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target. Functional U7 snRNA is necessary for histone pre-mRNA 3' end formation, operating as part of the U7 snRNP complex involved in cell cycle-regulated mRNA maturation, but the pseudogene form, RNU7-26P, does not participate in these processes[3][5][6]. **Notes:** - The **canonical gene** encoding the functional RNA in humans is RNU7-1, not RNU7-26P; many pseudogene copies of U7 snRNA exist in the genome but do not perform the function of the authentic snRNA[6]. - There is **nothing to support that RNU7-26P has any utility as a therapeutic or diagnostic target**; its annotation as a "target" is incorrect and its biological function is essentially null. - The entry is **not a protein, receptor, or enzyme**, and does not bind known drugs or serve as a biomarker.
