RNA, U7 small nuclear 74 pseudogene (RNU7-74P) is annotated as a pseudogene in the human genome, meaning it represents a non-functional segment of DNA that resembles the sequence of the functional U7 small nuclear RNA gene but does not produce a functional RNA product. U7 snRNA itself (not the pseudogene variant) is an essential component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein complex, which is involved in the processing of histone pre-mRNA, a critical step for histone mRNA maturation essential for cell proliferation and DNA replication. However, as a pseudogene, RNU7-74P is not known to encode a functional RNA or protein, does not have established biological functions, is not a therapeutic target, is not implicated in disease, and has no drug interactions or biomarker relevance. Pseudogenes are generally regarded as non-coding and non-functional remnants of genuine genes that have lost their ability to encode functional products. The functional U7 snRNA gene (such as RNU7-1) is essential for histone pre-mRNA processing; mutations in its functional forms are associated with disorders such as Aicardi-Goutières syndrome. RNU7-74P, as a pseudogene, lacks evidence for functional expression or disease association and is not targeted by drugs, making it not a relevant drug target nor a receptor, enzyme, or transporter in pharmacological or clinical contexts. If a therapeutic target is required, the appropriate entity would be the functional U7 small nuclear RNA (RNU7-1), not the pseudogene RNU7-74P.
