RNA, U7 small nuclear 96 pseudogene (RNU7-96P) is a non-functional genomic locus classified as a pseudogene of the U7 small nuclear RNA gene family. U7 small nuclear RNA is an essential component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, critical for the 3′ end processing of histone pre-mRNA[1][2][3]. In humans, the genome contains multiple loci derived from U7 snRNA, many of which are annotated as pseudogenes due to lack of functional transcriptional activity or essential regulatory elements[2]. RNU7-96P itself does not encode a functional RNA product and is not considered a therapeutic target. The biological effects and disease associations reported for functional U7 snRNA genes do not apply to this pseudogene.
