RNA, variant U1 small nuclear 30 (RNVU1-30) is a member of the small nuclear RNA (snRNA) class related to the canonical U1 snRNA, which is a core component of the spliceosome, the complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][2][5]. The canonical U1 snRNA binds to the 5' splice site of pre-messenger RNA, playing a crucial role in defining exon-intron boundaries and enabling correct mRNA maturation[2]. RNVU1-30 is a variant and is predicted to be involved in pre-mRNA 5'-splice site recognition by forming part of the U1 snRNP complex, although biochemical studies indicate that U1 variants generally assemble less efficiently into snRNPs and bind core proteins with lower affinity than canonical U1 snRNA[2]. No evidence supports direct involvement of RNVU1-30 as a therapeutic target, its association with specific diseases, interacting drugs, or use as a biomarker[1][2][5].
