RNA-binding E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase MEX3C (MEX3C) is a multifunctional, evolutionarily conserved protein characterized by two KH-type RNA-binding domains and a C-terminal RING finger domain responsible for E3 ubiquitin ligase activity[1][2][3]. MEX3C regulates post-transcriptional gene expression by binding to target mRNAs, leading to their degradation, as shown with genes like HLA-A2, and can also ubiquitinate certain protein substrates including the innate immune sensor RIG-I, facilitating downstream antiviral signal transduction[1][2][3]. Through these roles, MEX3C participates in the regulation of immune responses (notably type I interferon induction), cancer biology (tumorigenesis, chromosomal stability), and cell differentiation. It is emerging as a candidate therapeutic target, especially in cancer and viral infection contexts, though no specific drugs are currently known to target MEX3C directly[1][2][3].
