RBMY1B is a member of the Y-linked RNA-binding motif protein family found in a gene cluster in the AZFb azoospermia factor region of the Y chromosome. The protein contains an N-terminal RNA recognition motif (RRM) and a C-terminal region with multiple SRGY boxes (serine, arginine, glycine, tyrosine repeats). RBMY1B is primarily expressed in the testis, where it is believed to function as a splicing factor during spermatogenesis. Multiple closely related paralogs exist, with some being functional and others pseudogenes. Recent research indicates RBMY1B may play complex roles in liver cancer biology, with both tumor-suppressive and oncogenic properties depending on its context and expression, but it is not considered a canonical drug target or receptor.
