RNA binding motif protein 17 pseudogene 1 (RBM17P1) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome that shows sequence similarity to the protein-coding gene RBM17. Pseudogenes like RBM17P1 do not typically encode functional proteins. While some pseudogenes are known to regulate gene expression of their parent genes through competitive binding or as noncoding RNAs, there is no published evidence demonstrating that RBM17P1 has a verified biological function, clinical relevance, or therapeutic potential. The functional gene RBM17 is an RNA binding protein integral to the spliceosome, regulating mRNA splicing and implicated in cancer and other disease processes, but these roles do not extend to the pseudogene RBM17P1 itself[3][5][6].
