RNA binding motif protein 18 (RBM18)

Target
RBM18
Molecular classification
RNA-binding protein, Contains RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain, No evidence for receptor, enzyme, transporter, transcription factor, or ion channel classification
01

Overview

RBM18 is an RNA-binding protein containing a canonical RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain, predominantly located in the cytosol, nucleoplasm, and intercellular bridge. Its primary function is predicted to be RNA binding and nucleotide binding. It is thought to participate in the regulation of RNA metabolic processes typical for the RRM family, including modulation of splicing, RNA stabilization, and transport. While genetic association studies link RBM18 to some diseases (e.g., prostatic cyst, Moyamoya disease 1), there is currently minimal evidence supporting a direct pathogenic or therapeutic role. RBM18 is not classified as a therapeutic target and lacks known drug interactions or mechanisms of action in the context of drug development. The gene is highly conserved and has orthologs across species, but its precise biological and clinical significance remains under-characterized.
