Overview

RNA binding motif protein 27 (RBM27) is a nuclear RNA-binding protein containing RNA recognition motifs, involved in RNA metabolism and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression[3][7]. It is predicted to participate in the turnover of polyadenylated nuclear RNA, possibly through association with the nuclear RNA exosome complex as part of the PAXT connection[1][7]. Functional studies and ortholog analysis indicate it can negatively regulate factors associated with mitoribosome assembly, with roles in protecting mitochondria and preventing axon degeneration during neurodevelopment[1]. RBM27 is broadly expressed in multiple tissues, with nuclear localization and possible involvement in neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism based on genetic association studies[1][3][7]. No therapeutic drugs target RBM27, and it is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme.
