RNA binding motif protein 3 pseudogene (null)

Target
null
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding genomic element (processed or unprocessed, depending on biogenesis)
01

Overview

RNA binding motif protein 3 pseudogene (ENSG00000236741) is a non-functional genomic sequence that arose from the duplication or retrotransposition of the RBM3 gene and subsequently acquired mutations preventing it from coding for a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as this one are generally considered molecular fossils, though in rare cases, some may regulate their parent gene via RNA-based mechanisms, but this has not been established for this particular pseudogene. It is not considered a therapeutic target, is not referenced as a biomarker, and has no direct role in disease or drug interactions. Caution is required to avoid confusing this pseudogene with the protein-coding RBM3 gene, which does have biological and clinical relevance.

Other names

Mechanism of action

null

03

Biological functions

Other (most pseudogenes, including this one, do not have characterized biological functions, although some may regulate parental gene expression via RNA mechanisms)
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct evidence links this pseudogene to a specific disease; the parental functional gene RBM3 is implicated in cancer and other conditions, but not the pseudogene itself)
