Overview

RNA binding motif protein 42 (RBM42) is a protein-coding gene encoding an RNA-binding protein that contains an RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain[1][5]. It binds RNA, specifically the 3'-untranslated region (UTR) of specific mRNAs such as CDKN1A, and is implicated in the regulation of mRNA splicing, acting as part of the spliceosomal tri-snRNP complex[1][3]. The protein functions primarily in post-transcriptional gene regulation, influencing the processing of capped, intron-containing pre-mRNA[1]. Diseases associated with RBM42 include Kleefstra syndrome 2 and TARP syndrome, but there is limited evidence linking it directly to therapeutic drug targeting in humans[1].
