RNA binding motif protein 44 (RBM44)

Target
RBM44
Molecular classification
RNA binding protein, RRM-containing protein, Intercellular bridge protein, Other
01

Overview

RBM44 is an evolutionarily conserved protein containing an RNA recognition motif, enriched in testis, and localized to the cytoplasm and intercellular bridges of differentiating germ cells during meiosis. It partially co-localizes with TEX14, another essential intercellular bridge protein, and interacts with itself and TEX14. While RBM44 is maximally expressed in pachytene and secondary spermatocytes, it disappears in spermatids. Mouse knockout models reveal RBM44 is not essential for fertility, suggesting it plays a specialized but non-essential role in meiotic cell bridge dynamics and possibly in RNA processing or trafficking between germ cells
