Overview

RNA binding motif protein 47 (RBM47) is a multifunctional RNA-binding protein primarily located in the cytoplasm and nucleus. RBM47 binds single-stranded RNA and is involved in processes such as alternative splicing, RNA stabilization, and cytidine to uridine editing, acting as an enzyme-substrate adaptor especially for the cytidine deaminase APOBEC1. It forms mRNA editing complexes, stabilizes various mRNAs via binding at introns and 3′UTRs, and regulates genes including the interferon alpha/beta receptor and interleukin-10. RBM47 serves as a tumor suppressor: its loss is linked to breast cancer metastasis and poor prognosis in clear cell renal carcinoma. It also modulates epithelial-mesenchymal transition, interferon response, and RNA stability in cancer cells. Although it has no direct tumor suppressive signaling function, the widespread modulation of RNA biogenesis—including splicing and stability—by RBM47 can alter phenotypes critical to cancer progression[1][2][3][4][5].
