Overview

RNA binding motif protein 48 pseudogene 1 (RBM48P1) is a human pseudogene and does not code for a functional protein[3][6]. As a pseudogene, RBM48P1 lacks selected-effect function and is not known to participate in biological processes or disease mechanisms directly. It is classified as a pseudogene based on sequence similarity to protein-coding genes (specifically, RBM48) but contains mutations or truncations that prevent it from encoding a functional RNA-binding protein[3][6]. There is no evidence to suggest that RBM48P1 is a therapeutic target, nor are there reported drugs or biomarkers associated with this pseudogene. Pseudogenes in general may play indirect regulatory roles in gene expression or serve as substrates for genomic variation, but no such function is currently attributed to RBM48P1[3][5][6]. Notes: - The full, protein-coding counterpart, RNA binding motif protein 48 (RBM48), is involved in RNA binding, splicing, and RNA processing, but this does not apply to the pseudogene[4]. - RBM48P1 should not be confused with RBM48, which is an active gene with known roles in splicing[4]. - No standard aliases or alternative abbreviations were identified.
