Overview

RNA-binding motif protein 6 (RBM6) is a protein encoded by the RBM6 gene in humans, located on chromosome 3. It contains RNA recognition motifs that bind specifically to poly(G) RNA homopolymers in vitro and is predicted to be involved in mRNA splicing as a component of the spliceosome[1][7][3]. RBM6 also interacts with DNA repair proteins such as RAD51 and is recruited to DNA double-strand breaks to promote homologous recombinational repair[2]. It is predominantly active in the nucleus and expressed across various tissues[5]. RBM6 is associated with several diseases, most notably testis seminoma, Tarp syndrome, and has been described as a lung cancer antigen[3][4]. An important paralog of this gene is RBM5[3]. There is currently no evidence for approved drugs targeting RBM6 or for notable safety concerns in therapeutic settings.
