RNA binding motif protein 8B (RBM8B) is assigned as a member of the RNA-binding protein family characterized by RNA recognition motifs (RRM), the most prevalent RNA-binding domain in higher eukaryotes[1][3][7]. RRMs confer the ability to bind RNA with sequence-specific or structural specificity, facilitating diverse roles in RNA biogenesis, splicing, transport, stability, and translation regulation[1][4]. However, a specific functional characterization, protein structure, or gene annotation for "RBM8B" is not found in major scientific resources, unlike its paralog RBM8A, which is essential for exon junction complex formation and RNA surveillance. Therefore, RBM8B may be a misattributed, predicted, or poorly characterized entity, or possibly a typo for RBM8A. RNA-binding motif proteins are crucial for the regulation of gene expression at the RNA level and defects in such proteins have been linked to a variety of diseases including cancer and neurologic conditions in other family members, but not specifically attributed to this protein[3][5].
