Overview

RNA binding motif protein Y-linked family 1 member K, pseudogene (RBMY1KP) is a non-protein-coding segment of DNA in the AZFb region of the Y chromosome. It is part of the RBMY1 gene cluster, which includes several functional paralogs such as RBMY1A1, RBMY1B, and others. While the functional RBMY1 genes encode RNA-binding proteins involved in regulation of pre-mRNA splicing and are important for spermatogenesis, RBMY1KP itself is classified as a pseudogene—meaning it does not produce a functional protein. Most RBMY1 cluster members are pseudogenes, though a few retain full coding capacity. RBMY1KP does not have direct biological or therapeutic relevance, nor is it considered a drug target. Note: If you are seeking a therapeutic target or molecular mechanism, RBMY1KP should not be included; instead, review the functional RBMY1A1 gene, which plays important roles in spermatogenesis and has disease associations with azoospermia and Y chromosome deletions.
