RNA binding motif protein Y-linked family 2 member W, pseudogene (RBMY2WP)

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Other (non-coding RNA locus)

Overview

RNA binding motif protein Y-linked family 2 member W, pseudogene (RBMY2WP) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene located on the human Y chromosome[4][5][7][9]. It belongs to the broader family of RBMY pseudogenes, which are homologous to RNA-binding proteins involved in RNA processing, but RBMY2WP itself does not produce functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, its RNA transcript may, in principle, function as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) or “microRNA decoy” under certain conditions, potentially influencing the regulation of related genes[6], but there is no direct experimental evidence for a specific function, disease association, or therapeutic relevance for RBMY2WP individually. It is not considered a therapeutic target.

RBMY2WPRNA binding motif protein, Y-linked, family 2, pseudogene, RBMY2WP
02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no known drugs target this pseudogene)

03

Biological functions

Potentially acts as a regulatory non-coding RNA, via mechanisms common to pseudogenes (e.g., microRNA decoy activity), but no specific function is assigned[6][8].
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct association established for RBMY2WP; in general, some pseudogenes regulate gene expression and may have implications in cancer and other diseases, but not specifically for this gene)[6].
