Overview

Fused in sarcoma (FUS), also known as RNA-binding protein FUS or translocated in liposarcoma (TLS), is a multifunctional DNA/RNA binding protein. It plays critical roles in various aspects of gene expression and genome maintenance, including transcription regulation, alternative splicing, mRNA transport, and DNA repair. FUS was first identified as part of an oncogenic fusion protein resulting from chromosomal translocation t(12;16)(q13;p11) found in human myxoid liposarcomas, and mutations/misregulation are implicated in several neurodegenerative diseases.
