Overview

RNA exonuclease 4 (REXO4) is an enzyme found in humans that has 3'-5' exonuclease activity, enabling the degradation of nucleic acids from the 3' end[1][2][7]. It binds DNA and RNA and is involved in both DNA and RNA catabolic processes as well as DNA repair[2][4][6]. REXO4 is predominantly located in the nuclear speck and nucleolus[2][6]. Its activity suggests potential roles in ribosome biosynthesis and genome stability maintenance, and it is considered essential for the normal processing of nucleic acids in the cell[1][2][3][7]. There is no evidence at this time that it serves as a direct therapeutic target or is associated with approved drugs, nor are safety concerns or biomarker roles established in current literature.
