Overview

RNA exonuclease 6, pseudogene (REXO6P) is a non-functional genomic sequence derived from the ancestral REXO6 gene, which encodes an RNA exonuclease enzyme. As a processed pseudogene, REXO6P lacks coding capacity and is not known to produce a functional protein. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and can have regulatory effects at the RNA level—such as competing for microRNA binding or acting as sources of non-coding RNAs—no such roles have been reported or experimentally verified for REXO6P. It is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or drug target[1][2][5].

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

Most pseudogenes, including REXO6P, do not encode proteins and have no direct biochemical function. Some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), producing non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), or serving as decoys for microRNAs. However, there is no evidence that REXO6P specifically serves these functions.
04

Disease associations

Other (Most pseudogenes have no established disease associations.)Some pseudogenes have been implicated in oncogenesis or other diseases through regulatory roles, but no data links REXO6P to any disease.
