RNA polymerase II subunit H (RPB8/POLR2H) is a small, evolutionarily conserved protein that forms part of the core structure of the eukaryotic RNA polymerase II, and is also present in polymerases I and III. It interacts with multiple other subunits (including RPB1, RPB2, RPB3, and RPB5) and contributes to the structural integrity and assembly of the transcription machinery, which is responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA (mRNA) and several small nuclear RNAs in the nucleus.
