Overview

POLR2KP1 is a pseudogene related to the POLR2K gene, which encodes subunit K of the RNA polymerase II enzyme complex. Unlike functional RNA polymerase II subunits that participate directly in transcription, pseudogenes like POLR2KP1 do not encode a functional protein product and are generally considered transcriptionally inactive or non-functional. The POLR2K subunit itself is one of several small subunits critical for RNA polymerase II assembly and activity[1]; however, the pseudogene POLR2KP1 does not perform any known cellular function. Key points: - POLR2KP1 is not a therapeutic target and is not functionally equivalent to POLR2K or other RNA polymerase II subunits. - POLR2KP1 is a pseudogene; in human genome annotation, pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but nonfunctional. - There is no evidence for drug interactions, biomarker roles, or safety concerns related to POLR2KP1. - All documented disease roles and molecular classifications for RNA polymerase II subunits (such as POLR2C or POLR2K) do not apply to the pseudogene POLR2KP1[1][2][6].

Mechanism of action

None (no mechanism of drug action due to lack of protein expression/function)

03

Biological functions

No direct biological function; pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed, but do not encode functional proteins
04

Disease associations

None established; pseudogenes sometimes have regulatory roles, but no disease association is documented for POLR2KP1
