Overview

The RNA synthesis pathway refers to the cellular process by which RNA molecules are generated from a DNA template (transcription). During transcription, chemotherapeutic agents like 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) can interfere via metabolites such as FUTP which competes with natural nucleotides, leading to defective RNA and impaired protein synthesis. This pathway is a key target in cancer therapy due to the high demand for new RNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells.
