Overview

RNASE11-AS1 (RNASE11 and RNASE12 antisense RNA 1) is a predicted long non-coding RNA gene located antisense to the RNASE11 and RNASE12 loci. As an antisense RNA, it represents a transcript running opposite to neighboring protein-coding genes, and may participate in the regulation of gene expression through general mechanisms attributed to lncRNA antisense transcripts, such as transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, or RNA stability. However, unlike better-characterized antisense RNAs (e.g., RNASEH1-AS1[1]), there is currently no direct evidence describing the biological function, disease association, or utility as a therapeutic target for RNASE11-AS1[2]. No drugs or clinical biomarkers related to this molecule have been identified in the literature or major gene databases. Critical note: The molecule is not well characterized in scientific literature and may be confused with more studied antisense lncRNAs, such as RNASEH1-AS1, which *is* emerging as a cancer biomarker and functional lncRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma[1]. Therefore, the current entry likely reflects missing or misattributed information (“is_incorrect: true”). Summary of evidence: GeneCards lists RNASE11-AS1 as an RNA gene with no experimental data or clinical relevance[2]. There is extensive literature on RNASEH1-AS1 as an oncogenic and biomarker lncRNA in cancer, but almost none for RNASE11-AS1, and no indications of its use as a therapeutic target[1][2]. General properties of antisense RNAs include gene regulation, but must not be over-attributed without specific evidence[6]. If you are inquiring about RNASEH1-AS1 (which is a validated oncogenic lncRNA with function and biomarker evidence in cancer[1]), please clarify, as this may require a distinct entry and is not interchangeable with RNASE11-AS1.
