Overview

RNF216 intronic transcript 1 (RNF216-IT1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed from the intron of the RNF216 gene. Unlike its host gene RNF216, which encodes a well-characterized E3 ubiquitin ligase involved in immune regulation and cell signaling, RNF216-IT1 does not encode a protein. This lncRNA has been shown to be upregulated in osteosarcoma tumor tissue relative to normal bone and is predicted to localize to the ribosome. Although its precise biological function and disease relevance remain uncharacterized, differential expression in cancer suggests it may have a regulatory role similar to other intronic lncRNAs, such as modulation of RNA stability or translation. Currently, there are no known drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with RNF216-IT1[1][3].
