Overview

RNF26 antisense RNA 1 (RNF26-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA gene transcribed from the antisense strand overlapping the protein-coding RNF26 gene. Its specific biological functions remain largely uncharacterized. Antisense lncRNAs can regulate adjacent genes through several mechanisms, such as mRNA stability modulation, transcriptional interference, or epigenetic regulation. There is currently no evidence that RNF26-AS1 functions as a drug target or that it plays a direct therapeutic or disease-modifying role. No drugs or biomarkers involving RNF26-AS1 are described in the literature[3].

Other names
None commonly established; RNF26-AS1 is the standardized nomenclature[3].
02

Biological functions

Largely uncharacterized; as an antisense RNA, may regulate expression of the adjacent protein-coding RNF26 gene by complementary base pairing or epigenetic mechanisms[3]
03

Disease associations

Limited data; potential involvement in gene regulation in cancer or other disease is speculative, and not well-described in primary literature[3]
