RNY1 pseudogene 1 (RNY1P1) is a non-coding, processed pseudogene of the RNY1 gene, which encodes a small Y RNA that is a component of Ro ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes, important in RNA quality control and implicated in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus[3][1]. As a pseudogene, RNY1P1 does not produce a functional RNA or protein and is generally considered non-functional; however, more broadly, pseudogene transcripts can sometimes modulate gene regulation post-transcriptionally by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that sponge microRNAs, or by altering mRNA stability by binding RNA-binding proteins[4][2]. There is no clear evidence that RNY1P1 specifically acts in such a manner, and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target or a biomarker, nor is it associated with drug interactions. RNY1P1 does not encode for a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any canonical drug target class. Its main relevance lies in genomics and transcriptomics as part of non-coding RNA and pseudogene studies[4][2][3].
