RNY1 pseudogene 12 (RNY1P12) is a processed pseudogene related to the RNY1 gene, which encodes a small non-coding Y RNA associated with the Ro ribonucleoprotein complex[6]. As a pseudogene, RNY1P12 is not thought to produce a functional protein or RNA with classical Y RNA activity[2][4]. However, processed pseudogenes like RNY1P12 may still be transcribed and can act as regulatory RNAs, for example as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that influence gene expression by sequestering miRNAs, potentially impacting the expression of their parental genes or related gene networks[2]. There is no evidence this gene is itself a therapeutic target, nor has it been identified as a biomarker, nor are there drugs known to act specifically on it. While its parental Y RNA (RNY1) is involved in chromosomal DNA replication and cell biology, and Y RNAs as a class have emerging regulatory and biomarker roles in cancer biology, these functions are not attributed directly to the RNY1P12 pseudogene[1][3][6]. Notes on data quality and limitations: - RNY1P12 is listed by public genomic resources as a miscellaneous RNA gene/pseudogene and not a protein-coding gene or recognized functional ncRNA[4][6]. - There is no evidence it is misnamed or misspelled, but it should not be confused with its parental coding gene RNY1 or other functional Y RNAs. - No specific disease associations, interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or biomarker roles have been reported for this pseudogene, in contrast to the broader RNY1/Y RNA family. If a structured database requires canonical or functional biomedical targets (receptors, enzymes, etc.), this gene should not be considered a therapeutic target.
