RNY1 pseudogene 15 (RNY1P15) is a human pseudogene related to the RNY1 gene, which belongs to the Y RNA family of small non-coding RNAs[1][5][7]. Pseudogenes like RNY1P15 do not code for proteins and are generally considered nonfunctional remnants of evolutionary gene duplication or retrotransposition events[3]. However, emerging research indicates that some pseudogenes may be transcribed and participate in post-transcriptional regulation, including acting as competing endogenous RNAs, miRNA decoys, or antisense RNAs that may affect the expression of their parent or related genes[3][6][8]. There is currently no direct evidence for a specific therapeutic, biomarker, or pathogenic role of RNY1P15. The functional parent gene, RNY1, has associations with ribonucleoprotein complexes involved in autoimmune diseases and with derived small RNAs as candidate biomarkers in cardiovascular disease[4], but these roles are not established for the RNY1P15 pseudogene.
