Overview

RNY1 pseudogene 3 (RNY1P3) is a human pseudogene closely related to RNY1, which encodes a Ro60-associated Y RNA involved in noncoding ribonucleoprotein complexes. RNY1P3 is classified as a noncoding RNA pseudogene, meaning it shares high sequence similarity with the functional RNY1 gene but is considered nonfunctional in terms of encoding a mature, active RNA or protein product[5][7][11]. Located on chromosome 13, RNY1P3 does not code for any functional proteins, and no validated role as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other typical drug target is described in the literature. Pseudogenes in general may act as molecular "sponges" for microRNAs or other regulatory RNAs, potentially influencing gene expression indirectly[6][9]; however, such functions for RNY1P3 specifically have not been experimentally substantiated. There are currently no therapeutics or clinical biomarkers involving RNY1P3, and it is not regarded as a druggable target[5][7][11].

Biological functions

Serves as a noncoding pseudogene transcriptMay contribute to the regulation of gene expression via RNA interference, acting as a potential source of small RNAs such as natural antisense RNAs or competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), but this is unconfirmed for RNY1P3 specifically

Disease associations

Other (Pseudogene expression has been explored as a biomarker or modulator in cancer biology in general, though RNY1P3-specific data are not documented.)
