RNY3 pseudogene 16 (RNY3P16) is a genomic pseudogene located on the X chromosome (chrX:119456558-119456658 hg38). It is classified as a non-coding RNA pseudogene derived from the RNY3 gene, which itself is a member of the Y RNA class. Pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional remnants of once-functional genes, though a minority can contribute to regulatory non-coding RNA pools or epigenetic phenomena. There is currently no evidence that RNY3P16 encodes a functional RNA, protein, or has a direct molecular role in physiological or disease processes. The parent gene, RNY3, is involved in modulating RNA stability and immune pathways and can interact with the Ro60 protein; however, these functions have not been ascribed to this or other specific RNY3 pseudogenes. This molecule is not considered a therapeutic or molecular target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or biomarker) due to a lack of evidence for a functional role, clinical biomarker activity, or druggability, and should not be used as a therapeutic target in drug discovery or molecular biology workflows.
