Overview

RNY4 pseudogene 18 (RNY4P18) is one of several non-coding DNA sequences in the human genome that share high sequence similarity with the functional gene RNY4 (RNA, Ro60-associated Y4), a small non-coding RNA of the Y RNA family. Like other pseudogenes, RNY4P18 is the product of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and does not transcribe a functional RNA or protein. There is no scientific evidence that RNY4P18 has any independent biological function, acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or drug target, or is involved in disease processes. Most literature on Y RNAs and their fragments in pathology—such as their upregulation as biomarkers in lymphoma, leukemia, and other malignancies—refers to the functional RNY4 gene or indistinguishable fragments, not to pseudogenes like RNY4P18[1][2][3][5]. Thus, RNY4P18 is not considered a therapeutic or diagnostic target, and its inclusion as a target entity is likely due to a misunderstanding or confusion with functional Y RNAs.
