Overview

RNY4 pseudogene 20 (RNY4P20) is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome, annotated as a sequence highly similar to the functional RNY4 gene but lacking the ability to encode a functional Y RNA[5]. Pseudogenes such as RNY4P20 arise from duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes—often carrying sequence similarity but usually nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements[4]. There is currently no evidence that RNY4P20 itself is transcribed or functional, nor is it considered a therapeutic target. The functional RNY4 gene, by contrast, produces a Y RNA that participates in ribonucleoprotein complexes (notably the Ro complex), has a role in RNA quality control, and is being investigated as a biomarker in certain cancers[1][3]. There are no clinical interventions, drugs, or biomarker applications directly associated with the RNY4P20 pseudogene.
