RNY4 pseudogene 9 (RNY4P9) is a member of the Y RNA pseudogene family, classified as a non-coding RNA pseudogene with sequence similarity to the functional RNY4 gene[4]. While functional RNY4 encodes a small non-coding RNA involved in chromosomal DNA replication, RNA stability, and exosome biology, pseudogenes such as RNY4P9 are not believed to produce functional gene products. General research on pseudogenes indicates that they may regulate gene expression indirectly by acting as decoys or via other RNA-level mechanisms, but there is no evidence that RNY4P9 itself has a defined biological function or plays a direct role in disease or as a drug target[2][4]. Most clinical interest and biomarker development in this family relates to full-length RNY4, not its pseudogenes[1][3].
