Overview

Ro-associated Y4 small cytoplasmic RNA pseudogene 3 (RNY4P3) is a member of the Y RNA pseudogene family. Y RNAs are a class of small non-coding RNAs involved in the formation of ribonucleoprotein complexes with the RO60 autoantigen protein and others[1][3]. The canonical Y RNAs (RNY1, RNY3, RNY4, RNY5) are implicated in RNA stability, DNA replication initiation, and innate immunity[1][3][4]. In contrast, RNY4P3 is a **pseudogene**—a non-functional genomic segment derived from RNY4, lacking evidence for protein coding, functional RNA, or interaction with cellular pathways. While a few Y RNA pseudogenes are *transcribed*, most are not and their biological significance, if any, is uncharacterized[1]. Current literature and curated gene nomenclature do not recognize RNY4P3 as a validated therapeutic target or biomarker. The confusion arises because many sources discuss Y RNAs or canonical RNY4 functions, not the pseudogene RNY4P3 itself.
