RORB antisense RNA 1 (RORB-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the RORB gene, located on human chromosome 9[5][6][7]. It does not encode a protein but functions primarily in the regulation of gene expression through RNA-mediated mechanisms[2]. RORB-AS1 is implicated in various biological and pathological processes, including the promotion of cancer cell growth and migration—especially in bladder cancer—by acting as a molecular sponge for tumor-suppressive microRNAs such as miR-504[2]. It may also be involved in epigenetic regulation via interaction with the polycomb repressive complex 2. Genome-wide association studies have linked RORB-AS1 to susceptibility for viral encephalitis and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as associations with certain forms of epilepsy[1][9]. There are no approved drugs known to directly target RORB-AS1, and it is not a conventional drug target like a receptor or enzyme, but it is being explored as a biomarker and a candidate for novel lncRNA-based therapeutic strategies[2].
